Frontwoman Maria Coyne's powerhouse vocals are matched with emotive storytelling often focused on finding the light amidst the chaos. While the writing features nods to Coyne’s pop, country and musical theatre roots, the music finds its sweet spot behind alternative rock-influenced arrangements. The band has opened for local and touring artists such as Betty Who, Jeremy Messersmith, Delacey, and Reina del Cid.
The band’s debut full-length album Forward was released on March 5th, 2020. “Movin’ On,” the first single from the album was featured in The Current’s Friday Five and City Pages Local Frames. Forward is available now for streaming and download everywhere.

[our story]
Maria Coyne (vocals), Nick Baker (guitar), Zaq Baker (keys) and Sheldon Way (drums) met while students at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. The band formed in early 2014 after one of Coyne's original songs was chosen to be recorded for a compilation CD of St. Olaf artists. During their time in undergrad, Maria and the Coins were selected to open for multiple touring artists on campus including Jeremy Messersmith and Betty Who.
The band members all relocated to the Twin Cities shortly after college and began playing professionally. In November 2016, Maria and the Coins released their debut EP Wide-Eyed and Restless featuring three singles. The album couples fiery ambition with a songwriting instinct and attentiveness beyond their young years.
After a lengthy search, Maria and the Coins welcomed bassist Adam Maurer. Maurer joined the band in early 2018 and has been performing with Maria and the Coins ever since.
In the last year, Maria and the Coins opened for country songstress Whitney Rose at at First Avenue's 7th Street Entry, released a series of live recordings which were featured on The Current’s Friday Five and performed as a part of Cities97's Live at the Lake series opening for LA-based singer-songwriter Delacey.
Following a successful Kickstarter campaign, Maria and the Coins recorded their first full-length album with producer Stephen Helvig at Droptone Studio in Excelsior, MN.
The band’s debut full-length album Forward is available everywhere now.
